If you are on this page, it means that you want to know how to polish your car's chrome in the best way. Metal can be found on almost every car, whether it's chrome bumpers, stainless steel exhaust tips, aluminum wheels, or any other type of metal part. Over time, metal can oxidize and lose its shine and luster, but fear not! Heavy and light metal polishes are the perfect way to remove oxidation easily .

Which metal polish should I use to polish chrome?

To polish car chrome, there are usually two types of metal polish , Heavy or Light.

Heavy contains cutting abrasives, while Light contains light abrasives and is used to remove oxidation. This means that Heavy is more aggressive and best suited for truly oxidized metals, while Light is less aggressive and best suited for only lightly oxidized metals. Both products are applied in exactly the same way, so the following “How To” steps will work great for either!

Follow these steps to polish your car's chrome

  • Phase 1: Preparation

Shake the bottle and then apply just a few dime-sized dots to a microfiber applicator. A small amount is enough on chrome, so don’t overload the applicator with product.

  • Phase 2: Processing of the chrome surface

Simply apply the Metal Polish using the applicator. Work in a linear, back and forth motion. There is no need to apply too much pressure, just let the product do the work and simply slide the applicator back and forth making sure to cover the entire surface. The chemical may turn black, but this is just removing the contamination from the metal.

  • Phase 3: Cleaning

Take a microfiber cloth and wipe away any excess product! If desired, you can apply a sealant or car wax afterwards to add even more shine and protection!

Alternative ways to polish your car's chrome

You can use a polisher if you need to polish a large area of metal, such as the side of a large steel truck. This will save you a lot of time as you can apply the product much faster with the polisher than you could by hand. As for machines, try using one of our professional car polishers with a Rupes DA Yellow pad to get the job done! Follow the same steps as above but simply replace the manual applicator with the machine.

Using a drill and conical buffer

If you need to polish metal surfaces that are not easily accessible , such as exhaust tips or metal wheels, use our conical pads with a drill. The cone in different hardnesses attaches to a power drill. It is perfect for polishing hard-to-reach areas. Simply apply a few drops of Metal Polish to the pad, squeeze the trigger and let it remove oxidation from the metal in seconds.
